Biogas
Cow manure is also used at the SSCF to produce Biogas. The Biogas Digester was installed in July 2007 in collaboration with IICA The Biogas is piped directly to the two staff houses on the farm. The families have reported saving 50% on their cooking gas bills.
Humus Production
The disposal of the cow manure presented challenges in the past. This waste product is now being converted into a rich Humus using California Red Earthworms. The product is sold as Bloom Zoom and the SSCF earned US$2,000 from Bloom Zoom sales in 2007.
Compost
A total amount of US$1,300 was earned in 2007 from the production and sale of Compost. Compost is produced from a mixture of chicken manure, cow manure and molasses.
