Dr. Munoz
Dr. Hector Munoz Coronado

Dr. Hector Munoz Coronado is a Mexican by birth but calls Costa Rica home as a result of his beautiful wife Ana Isabel and their children and grandchildren. After a BSc. in Animal Science from Coahuila University, Mexico (1958), Dr. Munoz travelled to Costa Rica where he obtained an MSc. in Animal Science from Turruilba (1960) and subsequently to Purdue University, USA from where he obtained a PhD in Animal Genetics (1968).

Hector has been associated with IICA for some 46 years – starting as a Forage Specialist and Livestock Farm Manager, at Turrialba, Costa Rica and moving up the ladder to Head,  Animal Production Program, CATIE; Director for Research, Tropical Agricultural Research and Training Center, CATIE; Animal Production Specialist, IICA Guyana and IICA Suriname; and Associate Professional.

 

Hector has been the recipient of several honors and awards. These include: Scientist Emeritus Award from IICA and the International Recognition Award from Agricultural Institute of Canada. In addition, Dr. Munoz has held several offices over the years inclusive of President of Latin- American Animal Production Society and Member of FAO Animal Genetics Resource Committee.

Major contributions to St. Stanislaus College Farm and Guyana are:  the introduction the SSCF dairy production model known as the “St. Stanislaus Model” or the “Munoz Model”; the solar fence; the portable milking machines; humus production / vermiculture; composting; greenhouse vegetable production (hydroponics and in-soil); bio-gas production; the establishment of the St. Stanislaus Training Center; and silage production.
